PILATES at BALANCE & CONTROL

Pilates at Balance & ControlThe Pilates method works to develop muscle tone and improve alignment throughout your body. Pilates movements will transform the way your body feels, performs, and looks, allowing you to enjoy daily activities and sports with greater efficiency and reduced chance of injury. Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of ability.

At Balance & Control, we offer studio Pilates, rehab Pilates, Allegro (group Reformer) classes, and Mat classes.

STUDIO PILATES

In a studio Pilates session, your instructor will work one on one with you, guiding you through a series of exercises selected to meet your unique needs. You’ll typically use a variety of equipment, as well as the mat. Our sessions are one hour long.

We offer two options for studio Pilates sessions:

Studio Pilates 1:3. In a 1:3 studio session, your instructor will be teaching up to three clients. The instructor will teach you an exercise, then move on to the second and third students while you complete the repetitions of the exercise, and then come back to you. 1:3 studio sessions are efficient and economical, allowing you to have an individual program while maintaining affordability. Before beginning 1:3 sessions at Balance & Control, you’ll need a one hour initial consultation. The initial consultation allows us to understand your needs and devote the time necessary to teach the fundamental Pilates principles in depth.

Private Studio Sessions. When you need the full attention of your instructor throughout the whole hour, private sessions are a great option. Private sessions are particularly valuable when you are just beginning Pilates.

REHAB PILATES

Rehab Pilates sessions are conducted by our talented physiotherapists, who have full Pilates certification. Rehab Pilates sessions are designed to help clients recover from injury or manage a chronic condition. Physiotherapists have advanced training in rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries, and they put their knowledge to work to design and teach a session tailored for your unique needs and goals.

Your health insurance will typically cover Pilates sessions with a physiotherapist if you have an injury. Depending on the type of health insurance you have, Pilates sessions with a certified Pilates instructor (Studio sessions, described above) may also be covered.

We offer two options for Rehab Pilates:

GROUP PILATES CLASSES

In our group classes, our experienced instructors lead the group through a sequence of Pilates exercises designed to provide an effective general workout. While the instructors will show you modifications to an exercise to address your needs, you’ll be following a sequence designed for the group as a whole.

We offer group classes on the mat and on the Allegro Reformer machines.

Mat Classes. A full body workout on the mat. Small apparatus, such as balls, therabands, and magic circles may also be used. Class size is limited to a maximum of 12 to allow for individual attention. The class content is progressive, building your skills and strength from week to week. Many of our clients find these classes an effective complement to their weekly Studio sessions.

Allegro Classes. A full body workout on the Allegro Reformer. The Allegro is a version of the Reformer that is more versatile in a group class setting. Our Allegro classes have been specially designed by directors Bruce Hildebrand and Megan Steers to guide participants through the Pilates Reformer repertoire. The classes incorporate the traditional Pilates Principles - the key elements of Alignment, Breathing, and Centering - with a modern application to improve trunk and pelvis stabilization. We offer Allegro classes at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, so you can work at a level appropriate for you and progress systematically. Class size is limited to a maximum of 8.

Group Class Policies

Catch-Up Classes: If for any reason you are unable to attend a class session, you may attend a catch-up class within the same term. Please be sure to check with reception to make sure there is space available in the catch-up class you would like to attend. For safety reasons, any catch-up classes must be at either the same or lesser level to your regularly scheduled class. Please note that refunds will not be given for missed classes.

Class Duration: Mat and Allegro group classes are 1 hour in duration.

Allegro Class Terms: Allegro classes run in blocks of 10, to coincide with the school term. Reduced programmes may run over the school holiday periods. You may begin anytime during the term, and commit to the remainder of that term.

Allegro Class Levels: Class levels are divided into BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, and ADVANCED levels, allowing you to progress sequentially through the repertoire. If you have previous experience with Pilates and wish to enter the programme at either the Intermediate or Advanced levels, you will be required to attend a 1:1 private consultation to allow the teacher to assess your level.

Beginning an Allegro Class Mid-Term: If you start an Allegro programme part-way through a term, you will be required to attend a safety session prior to your first lesson. In this session we cover important information about how to safely set up and use the Allegro Reformer.
